Is it not considered bricked if a router responds to pings???

A router is bricked if the computer and the router are in the same sub domain and you cannot ping. Often one is in one sub domain and the other in another due to a software change or a reset and ping will not work.

In this case the router is not bricked at all. You need to match sub domains and you will gain control again.
