Browsing "My Network Neighbborhood" over VPN

    Hello All,

I am trying to setup a router to router VPN. MS actually has a very good article on how to do this using two computers, each with two NICS, and running win2k server. I had decided I was going to go ahead with this when I discoverd the Sveasoft FW for Linksys Routers.

I have been running some tests just having a winxp notebook connect as a a client to the router's VPN server. I have been able to do the following:

I can establish a connection -> be verified -> have the VPN server assign a local address to the notebook -> I can ping all the clients on my LAN and access the router using the internal address (192.168.0.254) and finally I can access the resources on the LAN using the clients IP address (e.g. 192.168.0.x)... What I can NOT do is browse the workgroup and see the other clients. I did some more reading and it seems as if I need a WINS server to allow for browsing to work over VPN due to how windows handles browsing calls. I setup a WINS server on my LAN, put in the WINS info in the WinXP client and I still can not browse using "My Network Neighborhood". I can however, I think, access each client w/ their NetBIOS name now.... And yes all the computers are in the same workgroup and loopback is disabled...

Can one of the network gurus out there tell me what I am doing wrong? What am I missing? And please keep it simple... I am just learning this stuff... TIA!

P.S. The FW supposedly also allows the router to work as a client. However, according to sveasoft once connected ALL traffic would have to go through the VPN tunnel. I just want to send INTRANET traffic through the tunnel. Is this possible or do I still need to setup a VPN Client w/ two NICS and Win2k to act as a proper client/router...

    Thanx...
