Can I skip VLAN creation when creating guest SSID?

I want to have two wireless SSIDs--one for myself and one for guests to quickly access the internet. I do NOT want devices on the two SSIDs to be able to see/talk to each other--I want them to be firewalled from each other as if they were on separate networks that both accessed the same WAN internet connection.

All the instructions I read online mention creating a second VLAN--is this really necessary?

I just did the following and everything seems to work:
    1) Basic > Network > added a second bridge on 192.168.2.x (vs 192.168.1.x for the original bridge)
    2) Advanced > Virtual Wireless > Created a second virtual SSID
    3) Advanced > VLAN > Set the new virtual SSID to use the second bridge I created.

Again, these instructions describe creating a second VLAN, which I completely skipped. Is that only necessary when trying to separate a physical ethernet port, or is it also necessary for a guest wireless network as well?

    Here's screenshots of my settings:

    1) Basic > Network
