As stated in subject. Can I do that? If so, which firmware is recommended? I am using ToFu firmware right now...

Depends on which hardware version it is. If it's a V4, then you're in luck - look around for instructions on installing HyperWRT Thibor. If not, then I doubt it.

any of mine will do, but you will have to flash to dd-wrtv23-mini_generic first and then to mine

One thing to remember is to get any Speedbooster benefits you will need to have wireless speedbooster clients, which you should be able to buy at your local electronics shop.

Just to be sure, this SpeedBooster upgrade can be done on a WRT54GL right?

Also, my laptop only has a standard Intel 2200bg card so its useless to try and upgrade to Speedbooster unless I switch to a speedbooster card correct?

    Just wondering.

    1) The WRT54GL is a WRT54G v4. It has the same hardware inside, probably the same firmware, and it does have the same FCC ID.

    2) Not too sure on that. Speedbooster is to my knowledge a broadcom technology, so you may want to get a broadcom-based card put inside your laptop, or if you're okay with it a PCMCIA card.

I have a regular, i.e. non SpeedBooster, PCMCIA card by Linksys. It's the WPC54G. I had read from somewhere in this forum that it can be turned into a WPC54GS, its SpeedBooster brother, just with a driver.

    Is it true?
