I've got a linksys WRT54G router , is it possible to talk to this with a fixed ip client? I've tried the following:-

    The router is

I set my pc to be
    Def gateway

With this setup I can ping but cannot access any web pages; yet when my pc is setup as a DHCP client then everything works ok.

Thanks in advance for any help, and please feel free to ask for more info..

when you use static IP you will also need to add DNS server IPs to your PC's network setup. this is probably what is wrong. using the DHCP server one WRT54G and PC set to auto it will get DNS server IPs from DHCP Server(WRT54G)

    What OS you using?

    Hi there,

I was testing this out using WinXP, but the primary reason I'd like to be able to configure this is so I can talk to my TiVo box (which runs Linux).

Pretty sure the only options on the TiVo card I can set are the ip add, subnet and gateway, so was trying to replicate this setup in windows.

Unfortunately this networking malarky is all a bit new to me, so please be gentle if I'm making fundimental mistakes :¬)

Fixed it, I needed to move the TiVo ip address outside the range of the DHCP server.
