Cannot connect to PPTP Server while behind WRT54G

I cannot, for the life of me, connect to my PPTP server from behind my WRT54G router. My client will authenticate and look to be connected, but I can't do anything afterwards. Can't connect to the network, can't get on the net, can't even ping the server.
I've tried various firmwares, 3rd party and not, and I've played with all the passthrough options I can see. Am I missing something? Or will I need a different router?

Some clarification: The client is behind the WRT54G, the server is directly connected to the net elsewhere.
Directly connecting to my (SBC) DSL modem allows me to connect with the server, no problem.

Do you have the latest firmware for your router?

The change log for Firmware 2.04.3 (which is several versions old) mentioned the following:
"- Resolves issue with PPTP passthrough"

Most current firmware from linksys as of the day of this post: here

    Good luck
