    I have an ADSL connection (thru a USB port) on my machine running WinXP. I have been attempting to instal the LinkSys WAG54G .. so that I can terminate the ADSL connection on the it and share the connection with another PC (also running XP).

    The PC and the router are detecting the Ethernet connection.

    When I attempt the quick installation, the access to http://192.168.1.1 fails.

    Tried a few things -

    1/ tried 192.168.0.1 as suggested by someone on this forum
    2/ tried reseting the router - though I haven't been able to configure it the first time!
    3/ tried disabling the ICF which is set by default in XP
    4/ tried deleting the currently defined ADSL connection

    The PC has a static address - 192.168.100.1 and
    subnet mask 255.255.255.0

    Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

    Thanks and regards,
    karen

    If the default IP on the WAG54G is 192.168.1.1 then set your static IP on your computer to something like 192.168.1.2 temporarily. You should be able to access the page at 192.168.1.1 then.

    This is the answer -
    If the default IP on the WAG54G is 192.168.1.1 then set your static IP on your computer to something like 192.168.1.2 temporarily. You should be able to access the page at 192.168.1.1 then.

    But where do I set the IP on my computer to 192.168.1.2? Any help in getting my router working again will be appreciated. Thanks.

    goto network connections --> right click the LAN connection--> Properties --> TCP/IP --> Properties --> ip address --> 192.168.1.1 --> subnet --> 255.255.255.0 --> gateway --> 192.168.1.1 --> DNS server --> 192.168.1.1
