Cannot log to custom path (ext2 mounted USB) - Shibby

I've set up logging but can't get it to log to a custom path (an external usb).

Here is a screenshot of my current log settings:
When I go to "Status > Logs > View All" the webpage is blank... There is also no .txt or .log file created in my custom log file path even though the directory exists.

Web Usage continues to be logged though and I can see a list of the recently visited web pages and search queries.

If I uncheck "Custom Log File Path" the logging starts up again and I can see log results in the "Status > Logs" page.

I'm not too sure what I'm doing wrong.
I tried to set the log file size back to 50kb to see if it would create an archive but it doesn't even do that.
My USB is 16GB and formatted as ext2. I've successfully setup IP and Bandwidth monitors to log to this usb.

    Hardware/Firmware:
    ASUS RT-N66U
    TomatoUSB - Shibby AIO build 100, v1.28

You havn't tell where/which usb slot your usb-memory is placed. eg sda1 sdc1
Look at USB support => Attached Devices to where it's mounted.

You need to give it a name; e.g., "/mnt/duracell/log/syslog".

It's mounted by it's label "Duracell" at /mnt/Duracell:

    Here are the results of
    Code:
    ls -lh /mnt/Duracell
    :
    Code:
    drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4.0K Aug 27 22:48 bt
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Aug 29 11:50 bwmon
    drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 4.0K Aug 29 11:20 dlna
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Aug 29 11:50 ipmon
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Aug 29 11:38 log
    drwx------ 2 root root 16.0K Aug 18 23:00 lost+found
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4.0K Aug 28 23:28 snmp
    The folder "log" is empty.

    Cyberian,

are you saying I need to create the file called syslog inside the log folder, then point to the log folder like it already is?

Or is syslog a folder and it won't work without that specific folder name and that I need to update the custom path to /mnt/Duracell/log/syslog/ ?

    Thanks.

Just put "/mnt/Duracell/log/syslog" without a slash at the end.

As it is, your router is looking under the directory "log" with unspecified filename.

This is all I had to do, thank you very much!

When the webpage says it is looking for a "Custom log file path" I assumed that meant it was looking for a directory, and not a file. Would be easier understood if it said "Custom log file".

I agree. I was also confused at first.

Does the same thing need to be done for Bandwidth Monitoring and/or IP Traffic Monitoring (when saving to a custom path)? If I do (i.e., I specify a file name versus a directory), Tomato throws up the following dialog:

Note: /mnt/storage/directory/filename will be treated as a file. If this is a directory, please use a trailing /. Continue anyway?

Should I be specifying a directory, or a file for Bandwidth Monitoring/IP Traffic Monitoring?

    Thanks,
    Kristin.

Does anyon know if we can do the same for Web and search history to an external usb? There is no custom path option available. The default is "/tmp". But there is nothing in that directory.

    Thanks

If you enable web monitoring you should be able to change the path where /tmp is?

Thanks for the reply. No the path is fixed to "/tmp" , I can not change it as is the case for the "syslog"

Ahh right i see. If you tick backup every night at midnight you can then change the path that it uses.
