Help- have 4 computers on network- these computers can share files with one another. I have a laptop connected via wireless WRT54G router. This laptop cannot access any of of the other computers on the network. The only firewall that is turned on is the one on the router. I have enabled file sharing. From my other computers I can browse the network and see a device called "laptop", however I cannot access any files on it.

From windows explorer on the laptop I cannot see any of the other pc's on the network. However from my microsoft broadband wireless network utility for the pcmcia card on my laptop I see the other pc's on the network.

All computers are running xp home or xp pro. The laptop is running xp pro svc pck 1.

Any help would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By saying you have enabled file sharing, do you mean you have shared your drives/folders to the network manually?

    Sharing folders

Yes. I have enabled files/folders to be shared manually on all pc's

I apologise for not making myself clear, but I'm still not sure what you meant by enabling file sharing. Presumably you have also marked which folders/drives (but not individual files) as shared folders and drives (denoted by a hand icon underneath the Windows folder/drive icons), yes?

You have Windows built-in Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) enabled on each client? Try disabling it.

Cannot share files with wireless laptop

Yes I have the "hand" under the folders. Again, the wireless laptop computer is the only one that cannot share files with the other computers. All other computers share files fine. None of the computers have the firewall enabled

Re: Cannot share files with wireless laptop

I have this same problem. It all started after I installed SP2 on my 8-computer network. Prior to SP2, all was fine. Every computer could see the others, etc. Now only some can see the others, etc, etc. I have posted this problem on numerous message boards and I or anyone else have yet to figure it out. I have been working with networks for 8 years and I am baffled. Of course, calls into Microsoft don't really go anywhere.

What sort of encryption have you set up for the wireless networking? WPA? WEP?
If WPA try WEP. That fixed it for me.
