(Newbie alert: Just set up ADSL and Linksys BEFSR41 today)

New to networking and BB internet, but not computers. I am trying to add a WAP to my 4 port router. I have all plugged in, lights are on, but when I run the setup CD it can't find the WAP, right from the beginning.

Is there something to change in my router config? Or did I just get a bad WAP on eBay?? (A friend suggested using a x-over cable direct from PC to WAP. Same results.)

try doing a hard reset. or try to tftp firmware to it. (i dont own a wap but maybe you could try these)

You do not need a cross over cable. Is it a new unit? Do a hard reset by pressing in the reset buttomn in the back for at leasr 15 seconds. After it resets with the WAP54G connected to your BEFSR41 open your browser and enter the default ip address of and, when prompted enter the defaiult password pf "admin" in lower case and without the quotation marks.

    Figured it out!

Thanks for the inputs. I had tried the resets and all. And the Xover cable idea was just to see if the PC saw the WAP at all. If not, then it may have been faulty.

Turns out, part of ZoneAlarms firewall was still running! I had shut it down when I first started installing ADSL & removed it from Startup menu. But a component was running in the background. Found out when pinging the WAP IP address gave the error code 65(I think). A tech at Linksys support told me a firewall was probably blocking it.

Completely uninstalled ZA and rebooted, pinged it no problems. Started CD again, poof! Went thru no problemo!

    (A happy ADSL surfer now)
