    Hi all

I am new here, and although working often with computer networks, I am reletively new to wireless.

I recently purchased a Netgear WPNT wireless router, and every time I tried to connect wirelessly to it, it would reboot. I later found out that the router was not compatible with the Centrino 3945ABG internal wireless I have in my Dell Latitude. Hence I promptly returned the item and have decided to go the Linksys route...

I am now unsure as to which wireless router I should buy?! Every user review I read on any wireless router results in issues!

I have a cable modem and hav ethe following requirements:

    1. Must work with my Dell Latitude 3945ABG wireless laptop.
    2. Since I am looking to purchase a network storage device to connect to the router via ethernet, I would prefer a wireless router with 4 Gigabit ports (since my laptop also has a gigabit port an I dont mind plugging the laptop in via ethernet if transferring large files etc)

    What are your recommendations?

    Many thanks in advance.

Which rebooted - the router or computer? The problem may not be an issue of incompatibility - the reboot could be caused by an underlying hardware or software issue. The Intel 3945ABG (and the 2200BG and 2945ABG preceeded) is not without problems. Have you checked out the Dell Community Forum (DCF) for user's comments on the adapter?

If we live in a perfect world, forums such as this or DCF would be extremely quite.

I just bought a Lenovo 3000 N100 2Ghz Laptop last week. This has the same Intel 3945 Wireless chipset. I have had no problems with mine on either the WRTSL54GS or the WRV200 for connectivity.

I would not recommend the WRV200 just yet until firmware has sorted out the problems with it.

The WRTSL54GS however is thoroughly recommended by me and others especially with Thibor15c Firmware.

It's not the compatibility with router I would worry about. On many Dell notebooks, the Intel PRO/Wireless adapter is prone to switching itself off - something I haven't heard happening to other brands of notebooks. It happened to my connection twice today already.

    Hi
    Many thanks for the replies.
It is the actual router that was rebooting itself - the lights would begin flashing as they do in the boot phase etc. My laptop would simply report a lose of connection, and then I am unable to search to the network (probably because the router is rebooting!)
I have read many similar complaints on the Netgear forums of people complaining about the same issue - and Netgear are now discontinuing the product!
I think my card is ok...

The WRTSL54GS looks interesting.... I like the option of attaching a USB storage device directly to the router - as I was initially thinking of buying a network storage device to do the same, but this means I cab use the external HDD I already have.

How does this work? Do I just created shares on the storage device and browse to the shares as normal, or can I create a mapped drive on my laptop to the entire drive?

Also does the router have 10/1000 ports, or just 10/100?

Whats the wireless speed and range like?

    Thanks

the GUI has a Share setup/media server/ftpserver. the ports are 10/100.

Wireless in my house is good using 3rd party firmware.

Are there any other Linksys models that work well with this wireless adaptor?

Does it work well with the WRT54GS ?

I have 3945abg wireless addapter on one of my Toshiba laptops, and i'm unable to connect to WAG354G. Sometimes the connection is successful but i cannot surf the internet. I tried all wireless network setups, even the without encription, but nothing changes. Another laptop with 2200bg adapter works great. Some help:help: please?
