CFE & MAC addresses

I have been testing several WRT54G(S) and ran into something peculiar. I have been extracting the default values by telneting into the different versions and typing the following: dd if=/dev/mtdblock/0 bs=1 skip=4116 count=2048 | strings > /tmp/cfe.txt then dd if=/dev/mtdblock/0 of=/tmp/cfe.bin. I then have been copying both the cfe.bin and text to my WinXP box using WinSCP Ver. 4.0.0. When I open the txt files, the MAC addresses are the same for every Linksys router that I have extracted the cfe.bin & cfe.txt from. I know that this is not correct but can't figure out what is wrong! Maybe I should try another version of WinSCP (not the BETA that I'm using) or maybe build a linux box to do what I'm doing. Any suggestions?

    I've done a 54Gv2, a 54GSv2.1 and a 54Gv2.2. Beats me!!

this is true at least for the v2.3 CFE (as i have a 54G v2.0) generated from http://lonewolf.hacker-nin.com/wrt/cfe/:

The 2 MAC addresses at offsets 0x10C2 and 0x1186 are constant values.

The MAC put in by the CFE generator page is at offset 0x1E00.

(Offsets given are those of the 1st character of the MAC, and if you aren't used to using hex values, 0x just means it's hex).

PS. You know there's free windows GUI SSH and SFTP clients available from ssh.org, right? I don't know much about FTPing into linksys routers, but as far as i knew there was an SSH daemon but not an FTP daemon, so you'd be using SFTP over the SSH daemon, not FTP?
