I've read the Linksys manual and search forums but haven't seen a clear explanation for what the Amber and White lights (LEDs) mean behind the Cisco button on the front panel. Yea, it says to push it to do the Secure Easy Setup but explain this>>>>

I have 2 of the WRT54G V4's running dd-WRT v23 (of course). One is acting as a WAP the other a router. The router has the amber light on 30 seconds or so after boot-up, always on. The WAP one, that is connected to the wired LAN using copper (Ethernet) never has the light on. If I push the button it goes white then amber then off and doesn't ever come back on.

What's this all mean.....what are those lights telling us?

I don't think it does anything on DD-WRT's firmware, but I could definitely be wrong. I think all that pressing the button does is change the color of the light. That's all I see it doing...

actually, pressing the button makes the white LED blink, kills my wireless connection and (appears to) disconnect the router from the internet (cable modem).

Mine is always amber after upgrading to the newest 4.x firmware. When I was ast the older 3.x firmware, niether LED ever came on.
