    I don't know if anyone might find this useful or not, but Ive just had to reset all passwords for an old 2600 I had lying around. I'm one of these people that has firefox rememeber all my passwords :p

    Anyway below is how to reset the config on Cisco switch or router

    N.B. You must have physical access to router with Hyper Terminal and Roll over cable.

    1. power off and back on the device
    2. hold down control and hit BREAK (may have to do this a few times)
    3. Once you are at the rommon> prompt, type confreg.
    4. For the rest of the tutorial I have just coppied my entries and bolded where you need to type

    rommon 2 > confreg

    TAC:Home:SW:IOS:Specials for info
    C2600 platform with 65536 Kbytes of main memory

    Self decompressing the image :

    [OK]

    Once you start seeing ##### you know your good as this is the IOS loading as most of you probably know. its important that after typing confreg that not only do you select y to ignore system config but you also yes and select boot system

    change the boot characteristics?
    enter to boot:
    0 = ROM Monitor
    1 = the boot helper image
    2-15 = boot system

    If you dont it will just keep booting into Rommon mode.

    If you have any questions or queries just let me know, I'll have a look at this and mybe tidy up a little later.
