In my hostel room, the strength of the wireless is very low.So is it possible to enhance it using WRT54G v3.1? I have it with DD-WRT v23.

I have it running in 'Client Bridge' mode and it works fine when connecting through cable and wireless is not working in this mode.

I justneed to connect to my hostles wireless network through the router. is it possible through some configuration?

So you have to use the WRT as a wireless client. That gives you 4 lan ports, use one to connect another AP.

On client mode your router is only receiving info wirelesly and giving that info to the LAN ports, that is why it is a bridge mode, not a repeater... the only mode that receives data, gives to LAN and ALSO gives signal (1/2 theoricaly) to WIFI is WDS..
