combining two routers - but not simply behind each other

    i have two routers:
    1. asus rt n 16 with tomato 1.28
    2. speedport w723v /http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedport)

the speedport offers two ports for analogue telephones - which i want to use, but simply as converter.
on my tomato-asus an asterisk server is running, and i want to register my speedport via lan to this asterisk server.
this would not be a problem - just connecting both switches, disable the dhcp-server on the speedport (which i did anyway, because every logic is configured in tomato) and have fun.
but the problem is that i need the vdsl-modem in the speedport to get the wan-connection working...

do you think this is really doable? or is that a fiction? i guess i would need to separate one lan-port of the speedport of the network, otherwise i would get a loop (lan <- > lan and wan <-> lan).

guessing, that this in impossible, but hoping it is not... ;-)
