We use a few WRVS440N in various test networks. A couple of them are used to create VLANS and firewall rules are used to restrict access between VLANS.

We find them a great router - reliable since the 1.03 release. We have not had any noise or FTP problems.

A couple of comments and requests:

    1) it would be great to be able to export the IPS report and log.
    2) we need to be able to set firewall rules based on MAC addresses rather than IP addresses.
    3) if a device has a static address assigned then the router should not allow it to connect with a separate address.
    4) **security issue ** if a rule is set that blocks all traffic to an IP address while that IP address has connections (in IP conntrack) then the rule does not always work on open connections.
    5) the signature file has not been updated since March. When is the next update?

On balance we are very happy wwith these routers and are considering using them throughout more test networks.

    Thanks for the info David.

How difficult was it for you to configure the Vlan portion? Were you able to do it based on the information in the "help" section or did you "figure it out" as you went along?

    Hi Jay,
Bit of both. The interface is actually quite good once you get the hang of it. Bit confusing at times. The interface hides a lot of itself until you select an option such as VLAN, in which case other drop downs open up. I suppose this is as it should be...

    A couple of niggly issues:
could not get a Windows Drive share running across VLANS. FTP works fine.
It does not appear as though you can define a port to run to multiple VLANS.

Other than that it works very well.
