Can someone explain to me or point me to a good comparison chart to see the differences between these two models, BEFSX41 and WRT54G (aside form the obvious wirless aspect of the WRT54G).

And also what is the difference between the WRT54G and the WRT54GL?

Thanks for any help to this Linksys newbie.

BEFSX41 is a VPN Endpoint router.

    WRT54G/GL are Wireless routers.

there have been so far versions 1-4 that use linux as the operating system. v5,6 and 7 use VxWorks as the operating system. the v1-4's can use 3rd party firmwars that are custom built with adtional features.

    v1-v4 are discontinued.

the GL is basically a v4 the L standing for Linux.

a comparison of WRT54G/GS's is here

i will not be doing a ful comparison of the BEFSX41 as it has different hardware and is only a Wired router.

Can you tell me if the BEFSX41 series has any 3rd party firmware available too?

no there has been no source code released for this.

    http://www.linksys.com/gpl/

however most sources are incomplete due to some of the code being under GPL licensing, and some of it not. luckily enough the WRT54G/GS is a complete build
