I'm trying to compile the WRV54G code for several months.
I can't succeed, nor anyone that I know from the Internet forums I have been wondering at.
The GPL code seems to lack significant sections and I can't see how it is complete.
For example: I have tried to search for strings from the WEB interface in the source but could not find any - so how come this GPL release is complete?

Is linksys violating the GPL license by releasing an uncompilable and incomplete (see above) "GPL" code ?

I guess Linksys is afraid from users trying to play with the firmware and killing the device, but enabling people from the open source community to review and fix the code should be positive from obvious reasons.

anyone knows how to compile (a complete portion of) this Firmware?

    thanks
    Mike

No they are releasing the parts that they can. i.e their own code, whereas the complete firmware contains code from the hardware vendors such as Intel, Broadcom, etc.

Well I can't see their code either. have I mentiond that searching strings from their WEB UI does not appear in the code?
if this isn't thier code what is ... ?

Have you tried contacting Linksys and asking them, because at the end of the day they're the only ones who know what they've released and why.

    Sure I did.
It seems that Linksys teaches their tech support team to avoid answering when they do not want to answer, in a very professional and diplomat manner...

What is the point in making the WRV54G based on GPL if no one can do anything with it and can't improve it?
this looks to me like a very nasty marketing fruad.

not fraud m8 some of the code may not be under GPL licensing so they only released what is allowed to be released.

tech support are not the ones in charge of gpl issues though tbh. if you have a complaint then email them and ask it is passed onto the necessary people, however i think you;ll find linksys has bent over backward to release source cod to the public whereas other manufacturers have not done the same.
