I did pretty good assigning some decent fast local nameservers, and I have enabled dns-masq with a cache size of 2048, etc. Yet, just about every day, on both mail.google.com and www.facebook.com there will be a long delay where it is 'looking up $name'. This puzzles me because both sites are visited by millions of people every day, which means all the DNS servers should know the IPs to get there, and there should be a cache stored on my router, as well as my computer itself since I didn't reboot it. My theory is that the TTL is set low, and after that, the ip is invalid, and it has to do a fresh lookup going all the way back to the rootserver.. Unless there is something wrong with my setup? I tried to find various IPs that resolve to that directly, but they all just take me back to the google webpage.
