hello linksys fans  first I want to say hi (from Germany) to this great forum here and hope to be at the right forum to get an answer for my problem Here it is: I have a fileserver with WMP54G at my basement downstairs. On 3rd floor I have a WRT54G (with 7dbi HGA7T antenna) router with hardware version 2.2 with original firmware version for germany v3.03.2.de. I want to connect the fileserver over WLAN with WPA encrytion to my WRT54G Router. But the range is to "large" or better: the connection is to bad, too much "material" between them. First I did the following: I used a WAP54G (Version 2,Linksys Firmware 2.08) in repeater mode in basement near the fileserver. That worked fine. But highest encryption is only WEP128, because WAP54G cannt use WPA in repeater mode (information source: kb.linksys.com: Note: WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is not yet compatible with wireless repeater mode. You must use WEP Encryption if you wish to use security options with this configuration. ) So what can I do to get my fileserver downstairs connected with WPA to my WRT54G router upstairs using WPA as enctryption? I have bought, for test, the following components, which I can use: 1x WAP54G (getting a second one this week) 1x WRT54G 1x WRT54Gs 1x WMP54g 1x Noname PCIWlanCard supporting 802.11g (..and enough 100Mbit LAN cards ) (I'm sorry for my english, if it is too bad I'm sorry. And if there is a solution already posted..> sorry I have looked the last houres and searched, but I didnt find something. One other question I have: Flashing the router(s) with NON official Linksys firmwares is it really tricky? Only for US-models etc...? Thank you greets B.
