connecting WRT300n v2 and WRT54 v2 wirelessly

    Hi,

after writing and reading so many posts about wireless connection between to routers, I'm getting very confused.
Remember I'm a newbie in this area, and some times so many information leads to misunderstandings!
Yet this is the best forum I ever found over WEB to discuss this issues!

    I had a WRT54G v2 with Thibor15c firmware connected to internet.
Thanks to many users of this forum I managed to improved slighthy the range of the wireless signal trought some parts of my house changing firmware settings. Yet, this boost was not enough to cover all parts at the house.

Then I replaced WRT54G with the new WRT300n v2 (EU model) with firmware 2.00.13 and later 2.00.14.
The problems remains, the same areas with no wireless signal with WRT54G remains with no wireless signal with WRT300n.
With WRT300n I noticed, the SSID option should be enable in order to my PDA Qtek S200 capture and connect wirelessly. But that's ok, I don't mind.
Yet, I have managed to connect my Laptops wirelessly even with WRT300n SSID option disabled.
So this is a problem with Qtek S200.

    But the question remains:
As I'm not an expert with tecnhical expression, here is what I need:
I would like to use WRT54G connected wirelessy to WRT300n (which is connect to cable modem) in order to boost or expand the wireless signal to other parts of the house.
Unless your recomendation goes to connect WRT54G to cable modem, and use WRT300n to boost the wireless signal. It's okay for me.
I don't know if this configuration is AP, repeater mode, expander, WDS, etc.
I just need it to work. Yet I would like to understand how and why should be work in AP rather than repeater mode or vice versa.

I don't now if I can connect the router used to boost signal to my Xbox360 with Ethernet cable and then connect it wirelessly to the router connected to cable modem.
Or even connect wirelessly Xbox360 as well as other wireless devices (Laptops and PDA), to the router used to boost wireless signal and then connect it wirelessly to the router connected to the cable modem.

Which router should be used in what function?
I have no change to connect both routers with ethernet cable, and I want to expand wireless signal to other areas of my home.
Since I have both routers I mentioned, and I need to boost/expand wireless signal, which router should be used in which function, and what should be the configuration (SSID, DHCP, IP, SubNet,etc) of each one?

Or this configuration would never be possible to work?

In any of the solutions, do you recommend to install HighGain Antennas on WRT54G?

sorry for such an extended post, and I hope my english is good enough in order to express my problem

    thanks in advance

thanks again for your support, once again!

    Two more questions:
    1) For each router working in WDS mode, the wireless speed is cut in half?
    2) Do I need to add the MAC of both routers to the Wireless Client List on both routers?

Tonight I'll try to install bouth routers in WDS mode.
I'll let you know the feed back of my experience.

    Once again, thanks

You should only need to add the Mac address of the WRT300N to the WRT54G

adding 1 WDS (reapter) router each time does cut bandwidth in half.

    Hi,

trying to configure WRT300n v2 (assuming is WRT_A) and I can't find a way to change the Wireless mode do WDS in the Basic Wireless Settings....
    I'm using firmware 2.00.14

    What I'm doing wrong?

Regarding WRT54G (WRT_B): on Basic Wireless Setting menu:

Mode: Link with the Following or Link with any WDS device?????

    thanks

there is not a WDS setting there, it either handles WDS automatically (ie joins with a repeater automatically) or it doesn't

the only other way to do it is make the WRT54G a Access point. connect a very long ethernet cable and route this cable though your house. the connect the WRT54G to the WRT300N and you have a WAP.

besides the WDS mode on WRT300n (WRT_A) I can't enable Bridge Restrict as well as Remote Bridges (Wireless MAC of WRT_B).
The reason is WRT300n Basic Wireless Settings does not allow to configure:

    Wireless Mode = WDS
    Bridge Restrict = Enable
Remote Bridges = Wireless MAC of WRT_b

    is it correct?

Unless I managed to wired both routers (which is impossible as I mentioned on previous posts) I have no other way to make them work together and use WRT_B (WRT54G v2 with Thiboc15c) as Repeater to boost or expand WRT300n wireless signal.......

Correct me if my judgement is right

some routers have WDS enabled by default, the WRT300N may do, but I dont have a WRT300N so I dont know

just try it out and find out for yourself.

I finished the WRT_b configuration. I'll move it to some areas of the house where wireless signal of the WRT300n is weak.

    Let's see what appends

    it didn't work, sorry.
Meanwhile I bought a Ethernet cable, and now I want to try connect both routers, using WRT300n connected to the cable modem and WRT54 as Access Point connect with Ethernet cable to WRT300n

Can you help me with the configurations needed for both routers, please?

    thanks for you patience
