Connection problems with DD-WRT

I own a Linksys WRT54GL, and I am trying to upgrade my firmware from the stock version to a DD-WRT firmware.

I successfully flashed several vesions of DD-WRT (v.23 sp1, sp2, and even sp3 beta, all both in mini version and standard version), but I am unable to connect to my ISP using those firmwares.
I am using a cable connection, and ussually I use the PPTP protocol to connect (though I had success with previous routers using L2TP). The problem seems to be that those firmwares seem to be ignoring the changes I make to the connection settings (especially the PPTP gateway) and are deciding on their own the connection parameters (I can see those in the Status screen) and they are not succeeding in connecting to the ISP.

I would very much appreciate any help on how to force them to use the settings I provide, or solve this connection problem. In the end I flashed a thibor firmware which had no problem connecting, but I would much rather use the DD-WRT as it's much more advacned
