Connectivity getting worse every day

I have a WRT54GS router and two wireless clients, a desktop PC equipped with a WMP54G, and a laptop with an inbuilt 802.11b adapter.

On the desktop (XP SP2), the connection has been set up with the Wireless Zero Config only(afaik), and has been on a steady 54M when it was sitting right next to the router for a couple of months. After the PC was moved to a different room, the connection went down to 38, then seemed to change constantly. I was putting that down on distance, the walls, etc, but now I can hardly connect.
I noticed however that the Info bubble was giving information inconsistent with that of NetStumbler, or was showing 54M and "Very Low", etc...
    Any ideas?

Nevermind, problem solved, I was being a muppet.
Connected a pigtail (been looking ages for an SMA to RP-Bloody-SMA adapter), and voila.
