Hi everyone I just got a WRT54G v5.0. I have optimum online as my isp. While I'm directly connected to the modem I dont have any probs what so ever the connection is smooth and crisp. However when I am wired directly to the router, not via wireless. The connection is strong but then dies or lags alot. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do or what setup in the config I can use to better use the wireless router? Thanks everyone

There are several things that I'd suggest you to check:

    1. Try placing your wireless router away from metallic surface, water (such as aquarium tank), and anything that's possible produce interference.

    2. Place the wireless as high as possible. For instance, place it on the top of the bookshelf if possible.

    3. Disabling encryption and see if that makes any difference.

    4. Do a hard reset (reset all to default setting) if you have't done so.

    5. Check your router's internal event log and see if you notice anything unusual.

    6. Did you setup PPPoE from your router? If so, be sure to verify all the DNS settings are entered correctly.

Those are the spots that I would check. Let me know how things go.

I'm wired directly into the router. I'm not connected via wireless. So far the modem has lots of lag and the only way I can get it to run right for short periods of time is to unplug it and then replug it. It almost feels like it cant sort packets correctly or something. Its just slow and then stalls at times I dunno what the problem is.
