Converting a gateway to a router?

I have two linksys gateways, the wag54gs and the wag54gv2
The latter is out of use for quite a while now but I could really use a wireless repeater and the thought of using it crossed my mind.
Linksys says that I could cascade a gateway and a router http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...040B01#connect
    but I don't have a router...
So I thought that it might be feasible to load a router firmware on wag354gv2? if yes then which one?
    Any ideas are welcomed :welcome:

Neither the WAG54G v2 nor the WAG54GS is supporting the WDS (Wireless Distribution System) !
Consequently, wireless signal repeating is impossible...
