I bought a new WRT54G ver 4 a few days back and I have tried to upgrade to dd-wrt several time but did not succeed. I tried the following :
    1) Followed the procedure in the wiki : http://wrt-wiki.bsr-clan.de/index.php?title=DD-WRT_Docu_(EN) to the tee.
    2) put my nic on half-duplex ,disabled dhcp on wrt and configured my pc ( XP ) with a static ip
    3) same as 2 above but also configured wrt with a static ( wan ) address.

Under all these circumstances it comes back with a screen saying that the upgrade failed. And if reboot the wrt , the power led keeps blinking. I have to reset, power off and reset again to get a response to ping. I then have to upgrade to linksys latest firmware 4.20.7 .

    Please help.DD-WRT Docu

sorry did include it in the things I tried. Tried that too. In fact tried both the ones with voip and w/o. Both generic and non-generic.
    Thanks,

under the administration section there is a place to reset factory defaults (not firmware upgrade page). after your router reboots, login and go directly to firmware upgrade page. select the "std firmware for WRT54G". this is what finally worked for me, hope you have the same success.
