    From the dd-wrt.com homepage:

    "04.04.06 2:32 am

Subject: and last but not least...
...i added now a 1,7 mb micro build to the dd-wrt series and yes it runs on the WRT54Gv5 too if you know how to flash it. so please keep the donations running to support my work in future too. "

Look at the betas dated April 3, 2006 or later.
The "final" v23 SP1 should be coming soon.

Needless to say, due to less available memory, there are fewer features than would be available for other routers.

    It has happened before!

Before you go installing anything, I'd wait a couple of days until they update the hardware.txt file...

From what I read so far, it seems like you may need to erase the flash via a JTAG first (you could build your own - or buy one, for I think $15). :-(

Look at the last page of:

    I agree.

We know it works but its best to let the thing get smoothed out first so install becomes easier.

That's pretty good news for all the v5 owners out there, but it doesn't look like it'll be easy to do the flash...

Yes and it works although not as easy as the others to do yet.

And for an extra $10-$20, I could have a unit like the GL with twice the resources and without all kinds of gymnastics required to make it work. Admirable hack though.

did not work for me on a bricked V5

A reset was done with GND and pin 15 and 17
    power is flashing
    DMZ is off
    WLAN is off
    1,2,3,4 and INTERNET are burning

    did Jtag programming
I did make a new CFE.BIN and flashed that one
and tried the micro.bin as WHOLEFLASH.BIN

    still a brick

any chance to jtag that one ??

    :cheering: :cheering: :cheering: :cheering: :cheering:

    Have my brick working

    what did i do:
    Downloaded the CFE.BIN from brainslayer

    with JTAG

    disconnected and reconnected the power

    i could ping

    TFTP (linksys utility) the dd-wrt-generic-MICRO

and as last (because mine was still dead)

    -erase:nvram /noreset

all lights flashed, got a bright white light
    unplugged the power
    and i could access !!

and this V5 was bricked by doing a ground-reset on pins 15-16-17

I've said it so many many times: do NOT short any pins at flash chip when you not EXACTLY know what you do!

The flash chip is a ESD. If your body is charged electrostatic by your carpet or wool shirt and you touch the board of your WRT... say goodbye WRT.

Use EJTAG instead of shorting pins debricking. It is more safe and there are higher chances to debrick your device.

I just had to replace some raylink equipment for my home internet connection (cable company wont run 1 mile of cable up my driveway)
I used the raylink stuff from my gate to my house but speed was limited to 1 mbs. I went and bought 2 new wrt54gs V5's and programed them up with this new dd-wrt micro version. I had them both working great, no problems with the install but i crashed one when changeing the mac address. could not get it back up no matter what i did. but i took the flash chip out and programmed it back reinstalled the chip and all is good. I took the routers out of there case and installed them into some 14 dbi antennas that i had and this setup is 100 times better than the $500 a piece raylink units.
They increased my download speeds by 3 times.

One thing i noticed is that the chips in the v5's were listed as 4 MB chips, is that normal? could i install a standard version of dd-wrt with 4 MB or atleast the mini version?
