    i have found the following: wds does not work in this version, it is shown in status page as working, but it doesn't. PPPoE also still shows disconnected but it actually working. with regard to wds, lazy wds works ok, but not when specified to a particular MAC, SSID broadcast and no encryption makes no difference

    new pre5?

    is this the same pre5 as one week ago, or is this a new version?

    New version...
    Cool, I will test it now ^^

    A suggestion, when you release a new version, you should add the date of the release at least of changing name of release...

    feedback sould come in few hours ;)

    PS : I hope upnp drive work fine now ;)

    WPA PSK doesn't work, and I think all WPA does not work !
    I don't see any wifi network on my laptop if i select WPA encryption...

    If I don't choose any encryption, wifi is visible and I can connect to it.

    WPA2 : I don't know how to set it into winXP SP2 (i have installed the patch of microsoft for WPA2)

    So wireless don't function for me...
    Sniff...

    I have to back to another version...

    Maybe HyperWRT
    Or I will test the Talismen...

    What firmware were you rinning before the upgrade?? Did WPA-PSK work with that??

    Why dont you go back to the previous firmware?!?

    Didnt Work

    This version didnt work with T-Online DSL and PPOE. Continous drop-out, inconsistent connection, wlan didnt boot up, etc....

    Prerelease 4 works flawlessly, though...

    The hacked version of Talisman...
    How is it working out for you?
    Can You take some screen shoots of some of the advance features?
    Thanks.

    It work good but i don't know if it is a good idea to post here some screenshots...
    The topic witch have been created included the link to The_Individual was erased !!!
    And I don't want to be banned...

    But for the firmware freeman, it work good ;) with some little bug (like in the dhcp screen, when double clic on a box for adding mac adress, it disapear the box...

    Another thing, is that the wait time (when power led blinking) is pretty long...

    I too was unable to get WDS to associate. I tried it on one of my repeater nodes which was running pre5 from last week. (May 1 build I think).

    I fell back to the May 1 build and all is OK

    Wait to install this leak for now

    I deleted the thread as i dont want to linksysinfo to be dragged into anyone flamewar like the other ones.

    who ever released talisman 1.02 , released it, and thats that.

    Linksysinfo is here to Help users with problems, however it is not here to start more problems for itself.

    there are plenty of other sites (like bsr) to discuss this hacked firmware.

    Two more comments on the latest prefinal5 of dd-wrt:

    When wireless is configured in client mode it doesn´t join an existing AP automatically. When the router boots up it is not associated (also nothing shown on the status page). When you ssh to the box and do the following, association is ok afterwards:

    BusyBox v1.00 (2005.04.28-16:17+0000) Built-in shell (ash)
    Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

    ~ # wl status
    eth1: Invalid argument
    Not associated. Last associated with SSID: "myssid"
    ~ # nvram show | grep ssid
    wl_ap_ssid=
    wl0_ssid=myssid
    wl_ssid=myssid
    size: 19016 bytes (13752 left)
    ~ # wl join myssid
    ~ # wl status
    SSID: "myssid"
    Mode: Managed RSSI: -76 dBm noise: -95 dBm Channel: 4
    BSSID: 00:0E:38:A8:EE:40 Capability: ESS WEP ShortPre
    Supported Rates: [ 1(b) 2(b) 5.5(b) 6 9 11(b) 12 18 24 36 48 54 ]
    ~ #

    Now you also can see the correct association on the router status page.

    Second minor comment: When you open the VLAN setup page it still shows "Port Range Forward" in the upper left corner. Propably a left over from the copied origin site?

    I mentioned both things already in the first discussion thread about the previous prefinal5 release. They had been the same there.

    Otherwise, cool stuff !

    WPA2 PSK seems not to encrypt anything. my client picks up the SSID and reports unsecure wireless connection

    If the drivers have been updated, has anyone compared the wirless transfer rates? If they have improved I might finaly switch from Alchemy 1.0 to DD-WRT.

    It sounds like enough stuff is broken on the current build that I'll put it off for until it's patched up a bit. Looking good though :D

  26. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    gimme a little bit time to fix all that issues. the major problem is that i have to implement everything by doing reverse engineering since i dont have all sources. the new drivers are taken from the asus code, but the wlconf utility is binary only in this sourcetree. the linksys sourcetree has a wlconf utility with sourcecode, but its older and doesnt support wpa2. its only a question of time

  27. BrainSlayer

    step by step. some is already done. but not in v22. starting with v23 there will be many changes in the first time. new gui, new kernel etc.

    When running in client mode to make a wrt54gs is there anyway to force it to select a specific access point if multiple ones are within range? I'm having problems connecting my connection with my friend down the street and he keeps picking up a guy from across the street.

    The new release dose work for WPA ??
    If it is, I will switch without waiting anymore, beacause Freeman wifi crash my connection when I want to do file transfer, adding lan-printer...
    But wifi work for internet...

    PS : another flash in prospect ! (3 flash yesterday...)

    edit :
    My wifi card is a Intel PRO/wireless 2200BG,
    does it support the WPA2 ??
    I have tryed to use WPA PSK TKIP+AES, but with this configuration of the router, my laptop doesn't find any wirless network !

  41. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    if my reverse engineering was right, then you can use WPA,PSK,WPA2,PSK2 and some more. if someone is not working post it here. and naturally wds is interesting too

  42. MilesTEG

    MilesTEG Network Guru Member

    Could you repeat for me what is the differences between the basic version and the normal ?

    basic does not contain smbfs, kaid and chillispot.
    but unlike prefinal4, prefinal5 is much smaller so you can use both version on G units with jffs enabled

    Hi all!

    BrainSlayer, I think Wireless Survey doesn't work in you latest release.

    I'm in client mode and can't see any AP in the survey, but in Status-->Wireless I can see my box connected to one of my other WRT54G with stock firmw.

    It tells me the remote MAC, rssi, noise and channel, but not the SSID.

    I will be waiting for news.

    Bye!

    WDS is still non-functional. it states that it is connected, but the speed does not change, unlike other versions. it just stays at 54mbps. cannot ping the other nodes though(mix of pre4 and Talisman 1.0.3.1)

    I think I found a bug in the web interface. When using it for awhile I would click through the QoS tab and then click to add/edit service after doing that sometimes it works but othertimes the web interface crashes out to where I need to unplug the router to restart the service.

    Check that, after waiting a couple minutes it started working again....that was just odd...donno why it was doing it but it seems to have resolved itself.

    I've been having larger issues with port forwarding not working correctly where it just acts like nobody is home and also with the PPTP server where it will sit and time-out on the verification username & password when connecting from the builtin winxp vpn client.

    I ran the current (May 11) pre5 build overnight - setting WDS to lazy wds so I could use it. I had pretty consistent drop packets during the overnight and all day today (I run ping plotter) - on the WLAN.

    I fell back to the DDWRT pre5 (May 1) build - rock solid, WDS works again, no packet drops.

    I know BrainSlayer is working on this new build. The feature set is rich - just cant wait till its stable

    Found a problem with Bird and OSPF, the bird.conf is the same regardless of what interface selection I make (on the advanced routing tab) and it uses eth1 instead of vlan1, thus not advertising on the wan.

    DEFAULT:
    interface "eth1" { cost 1; authentication simple; password "XXXXXXXX"; };
    interface "br0" { cost 1; authentication simple; password "XXXXXXXX"; };

    WORKING:
    interface "vlan1" { cost 1; authentication simple; password "XXXXXXXX"; };
    interface "br0" { cost 1; authentication simple; password "XXXXXXXX"; };

    The memory leak problem seems to affect the connection very heavily. In either the earlier pre5 and the current pre5, the free memory drops at a rate of about 20kb/s when several P2P programs are running in the network.

    When the free memory drops to ~1200 kb (Which is only about 1/2 h), the connection to Internet becomes extremely slow (When doing traceroute, the ping should be <50 at the first gateway(excluding the router itself), however it can get as high as >4000 when it is slow).

    I really wants to use this firmware, however this situation makes the network highly unstable, I am now forced to use other firmware.

    Second thing, I can see the "Charset" problem in translation still exists, can you please check if your translation function includes the header.asp file? Besides, the translation speed seems very slow also.

    Anyway, thanks for this firmware, and hope to see a new stable version without many memory leaks soon.

  65. jagboy

    jagboy Network Guru Member

    then use dd-wrt pre 4 is has no memroy leak. and i am hosting a web site on the router and runngin p2p programs and still no reboots due to lack of memory.

    I just post one more post before that WPA PSK with TKIP works good !
    I have also enabled MAC Filter !
    And no problem...

    edit : little rectification : i have a problem... but I think it is a problem of all firmware...
    When I try to print (this is like a file send) from my laptop in wifi to the printer connected on a wired computer, the wifi crash... (meen disconection)
