    Thanks Morpheus I was just wondering since there is new timing made only for the WRT54G.

    Is the memory issue resolved?
    With the 05/05/22 my memory will keep droping by the hour and to a time where it will lock...

  4. BrainSlayer

    i added those changes to the 05/05/24 build

    coOl thanks Brain Slayer!
    Going to upgrade my WRT54GS with the latest build tonight after work.
    Also Brain Slayer do you know anything about the light behind the Cisco Systems Logo?
    Did you see anything in the code where we can turn it on or off?
    It looks tight I like it :) I want to have the ability to turn it on or off by command or interface...
    Thanks for any info bro!

    LOL
    I got OWN3D! :)
    Thanks Brain Slayer once I get home ill figure it out.

    I'm guessing then that it probably has something to do with the RAM modification. Oh well. I haven't been successful in debricking this router anyway. I think I'll just wait for 802.11n or whatever's next to replace it. I'll put DD-WRT on my home router once I get there, though. That one has no mods on it :)

    Ok I did some research if you have the latest beta firmware the light will turn on if the wireles is on if the wireless is off the light will turn off...
    I have DD-WRT pre 4 with wireless on and the light is off.
    Do I have to flash to the latest pre5 to see it on or just by command I can turn it on?

    i have it working just fine on a g,v2...as well as on 2 gsV1.0's. only issue i have seen so far is that pppoe still shows disconnected in web page. rp-pppoe is working just fine though.

    okay whatever you have to trigger. you can find it in /proc and you can trigger it with the echo command. happy searching

    I could NOT get the latest build to work on a V2 WRT54G

    I flashed from the May 18 build, the reouter went into a reboot loop - it would come up, then all lighs flash, then reboot. I finally got Stock Linky firmware on it but could not flash back ANYTHING - not the May 18 build, not Alchemy. I could only flash stock Linky and hyper. I gave up on my WRT54G V2.

    It works FINE on a 2.2 and 3.0 54G

    Could there be a nvram clear neeed??

    Any ideas?? I have V2 we can experiment with now!!!!

    Both the basic and full versions of the latest Pre5 build (.bin file dated 05/24/05) bricked my WRT54Gv2. I've tried:

    - flashing up from the previous Pre5 full version (bricked)
    - flashing up from Linksys v2.04.3 (bricked)
    - flashing up from Alchemy v1.0 (bricked)

    However, my WRT54GSv1 just upgraded OK from the previous Pre5 full version.

    Make sure you always do a full reset before flashing to the newer version. I've had problems when I didn't reset everything....experiancing odd crashing issues, stability with programs running, and horrible performance problems.

    Reset twice, flash once. :)

  17. dellsweig

    dellsweig Network Guru Member

    Zgamer - this is not the first time I flashed a router :)

    My gut feel is there is a nvram value that needs to be cleared to get this to work on a V2 hardware

  18. gotamd

    gotamd Network Guru Member

    Hmmm, it appears I'm not alone in my v2 woes. I think we should advise against flashing a v2 until something gets changed that fixes it (maybe in the latest version...I can't test because my router remains bricked after the second attempt).

  19. zgamer

    zgamer Network Guru Member

    lol, I just reflashed my wrt54gs vers 1.0 and got the same problem. However, I did correct the problem. I held the reset button on the back for about a minute straight...during that time after 15 seconds I unplugged the power for 5 seconds then plugged it back in. and repeated about 20 seconds later. then after the minute was up, I let go of the reset button and all was good.

    ....Just needed a good reset.

    as we already discussed. the router does some reboot cycles after first flashing. so just wait.

    Where can I check if I succesfully overclocked my router, since the Sysinfo1.htm doesen't work?

    das mit der hauptstadt wußte ich nicht. dachte immer das sei Ljubljana
    aber die rockband kenne ich

    to check the cpu clock frequency. just do "nvram get clkfreq"

    Thanks for the quick reply.

    I have a strange problem. When I try to restore routers setting from a backup file, I always get a "connection refused" error. I have to reset the router and manually change all the settings. I tried it with 3 different backups I made this morning.

    I possess WRT54G v2.2 and I installed on him software DD - WRT 4 as well as DD - WRT 5 (24.05.2005). I in both cases notice from more faintly cannon internet. The side of www the troche more slowly open and the transfer jumps.
    My net this 3 connected across cables computers.
    I noticed, that how connect computer under modem then internet acts quickly ( 95% - 100% link), when router distributes him then the sides of www unlock sie more slowly (50-60% link) I - did across strone tests www.numion.com.
    In options the routera ( DD - WRT) I have included " the DNS the masq and Local the DNS" and the of needless options switched off the rest. How I will original soft Linksysa then problem disappears.

    on some models this works with /proc/sys/diag
    but some other models needs to be programmed manually.
    does someone want this special led?

    I let it repeat the "boot cycles" on the V2 router for over an hour (while I configured my New 3.0 router). It was still dead. Only re-flashing stock Linksys firmware was I able to revive it.

    It looks like there is an issues with the V2 routers - maybe not all of them but many for sure.

    Brainslayer - you need to figure this one out - or post a warning. This is bad PR

  30. BrainSlayer

    why? its not a official released version. and please let not confuse yourself about a blinking light. that does not automactly mean "bricked"

    how long shoutl it be in the reboot cycle? mine was a good 20 min then the powerlight would just blink and mt wrt was unaccesable.

  33. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    10 - 20 sec. relates to the activated feature set

  34. dellsweig

    dellsweig Network Guru Member

    I understand it is not an "official release" we have all been using non-official releases.

    Does this mean that you know what the fault is (V2 install) and this will not happen with an "Official" release??

    Also, I tried to re-flash the V2 in question with an 'official' DDWRT release. It would not work. Remember, after the May 24 build put the V2 in this state, the only firmware which will flash on it are thee stock Link and hyperwrt. NO DDRT versions, or Sveasoft builds will work anymore.... The device just goes into a re-boot loop..

    I really do not want to get into a war of words - "official build - you should know better", etc. Just trying to point out a potential bug. I do have the May 24 build runnign FINE on a 3.0 and 2.2 WRT

  35. gotamd

    My v2 did reboot cycles all night (a good 9 hours) before I decided enough was enough.

    For some reason which I cannot figure out - the keepers of DD-WRT are refusing to talk about this issue..... It does not seem like the same people who have been working this project all along.........

    I am confused

  37. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    official build are available at www.dd-wrt.com. the rest here internally is testing inside this forum to find bugs. so there is no need to post warnings, since the people are already been warned at the initial post of this testversion

  38. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    why so upset? the problem is. i have at home many stock routers. G2.0, G2.2, 1.1 GS 2x and a V3 G. and i flash this firmware to all of these routers. i dont know whats going wrong with your router, but you also say that only stock firmware is running. no alchemy, no dd-wrt. so should should ask yourself whats wrong with your router or with the nvram settings which are included. some people increased the memory size of the G units. this can do some strange problems, since some firmwares are detecting the routers on this settings.
    and additionally i do not a official release cause of some strange issues. i'M working on it. but dont be so upset. that helps no one. all what i get is informations like my router is power cycling. okay, mine not. but for a real investigation i need more detailed informations like a nvram dump by doing nvram show. so i can check it agains my own router setup

  39. gotamd

    gotamd Network Guru Member

    Yup, this is a pre-release version that is by no means guaranteed to work, though it does seem to for the majority of people...as long as it's not v2 hardware.

    Again, I think it could have something to do with the v2's that have 32MB of RAM in them. I know mine does and it was bricked twice flashing from two different firmwares. It remains bricked after the second time.

  40. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    thats possible. and if i look at some codepieces you will also run in this problem with the next linksys official firmware release. linksys already released the sources for it, but not the binary yet.

  41. Partizan

    No, it restores ok, but afterwards, when I try to connect to the router I get this message. I have to reset the router to be able to connect to the rooter.

    Tell me what you want dumped - give me the exact format of the commands you want issued on the V2 device. Currently it has hyperwrt 2.1 installed and operational. I have access to a Linux shell on it. Let me know where to send the dump or whatever output you need

    The device was running DDWRT-Pre 5 May 18 with no problem. The problem occurred after a flash attempt to the May 25 build.

    Would clearing out nvram (nvram erase) possibly clear the problem??

  43. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    nvram clear etc. would not solve the problem. this command does not reset all values like cpu clock and dram properties.

    what i need is "nvram show"

    this gives you a full dump of all hidden vars. also internal values are included which are needed to boot the unit. dd-wrt and the new linksys firmware (which isnt released) are doing some changes on some internal values and this can cause strange effects if you already did something on it. i can also remove this code so see if it works in your system

  44. dellsweig

    dellsweig Network Guru Member

    Let me know if you have a build without the changes.. I tried to flash in the May 18 build and I get the reboot loop problem. This leads me to believe that the May24 build set some nvram setting which is preventing most other firmwares from initializing correctly.

    I did notice that during the flash, the web admin progress bar normally makes 1.5 passes (non technical description) before changing web screen to download complete. When I try to load DDWRT pre5 on this router (V2), it goes 3/4 of the way (the progress bar) then jumps to download complete

  45. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    compared to prefinal4, prefinal5 is much smaller. so flashing is faster

  46. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    here the description of the changes from linksys

    on BCM5325E chipsets the following changes are made

    sdram_init = 0x010b
    sdram_config = 0x0062
    clkfreq=216
    sdram_ncdl=0x0

    then the router reboots. at the second startup time it checks again for this values and would do the same again if the values arent change at the last cycle

  47. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    the BCM5325E chipset is detected by checking the nvram get boardtype
    if the result is 0x0708 the changes will be made

    yesterday i also tried to flash a WRT54G v2 with may 24 build and it was bricked!
    today i tried again with a another v2 and suprise....same problem....reboot loop! well i was frustrated and went to uni. several hours later when i got back the router was not rebooting anymore but also was not reachable via ping. so i started debricking it and made a hard reset. pings were ok and all of a sudden the wlan was available too so i tried to login. and it works just fine!
    then i read what nvram changes were made...and i checked it...so here they are:
    sdram_init=0x0000
    sdram_config=0x0032
    clkfreq=200
    sdram_ncdl=0x2020f

    seems to me that i somehow managed to reset the nvram through hard reset and then the router got back to life!

    yes i would really like to have control over the hidden light of the router. this would be really cool brainslyer. and i just bought the wrt54gS v2 with the hidden light, if anyone knows how to turn it on and off i would really like to know how.

    thanks

    you might not want to post this in the forums if you ping this you can get your real ip address!!

    Nope. You can just figure out who his ISP is, but not much more.

    Now, that is something that should not be there.

    I don't think anyone cares if you post your IP address. I mean, it's not hard to find a random person's IP address so there's no need to scavenge them from the internet. Plus, hacking someone's PC for absolutely no reason is just dumb.

    Yeah, I'm a former Sveasoft subscriber who went through about 97 different builds of Alchemy so I'm definitely in the habit of resetting to defaults before attempting to flash anything :D

    After about the sixth bricking of my v2 I even tried the pin15-16 trick before I reloaded the stock Linksys firmware, reset to defaults, and then attempted a final flash of DD-WRT Pre5. But alas, still no luck...

    Not that I'm complaining! I know I'm using this stuff at my own risk and just want to do whatever I can to help troubleshoot. Keep up the great work, BrainSlayer! As we used to say back at the old Uni Münster, deine Firmware ist doch echt jovel!

    No problem here - I have been using "At You OWn Risk" firmware for some time.. No blames, no electricity...

    I just want to know how to un-do whatever pre5 May 24 did to my V2 router..

    Since the failed upgrade, the ONLY firmwares I can load onto it are the Stock Linksys and the HyperWRT 2.1. I cannot load ANY of the DDWRT released 2.1 or 2.2, I cannot load any of the Alchemy releases. I have not tried Satory. All of these loads go into the reported re-boot loop

    Apparently, the DDWRT Pre5 load set a NVRAM value to something MOST other firmwares cannot deal with. I need to clear this out so I can at least load DDWRT 2.1 onto the box.

    Any ideas??

    yep. as i wrote
    these values here written on this affected routers
    sdram_init = 0x010b
    sdram_config = 0x0062
    clkfreq=216
    sdram_ncdl=0x0

    check if the values are setted like this. if yes you need to reconfigure it to the original values. i will try to collect all original configs for all routers

    i reviews all your nvram dumps and i found out that they all unchanged except one which was changed the linksys modifications. but the router with this mod was the only one who was working. mmh interesting. okay i will remove the code tonight and then we will see whats happend

    Brainslayer - if you have a build you want to try on my V2 router - email me or pm me. I currrently have hyperwrt 2.1 running on the V2....

    1)What is a safe number to overclock to?

    2)What is a not safe number to overclock to?

    P.S. I changed it from 125 to 130
    I have the bcm94710dev chipset

    I have the same problem. I upgraded my WRT54G v2.2 and now I have stock Linksys firmware on it and it even took me 3h to get it running. Any new ideas on how to get the DDWRT firmware on it again?

    Brainslayer's working on that I think. It has something to do with the RAM settings so I think his current plan is to remove the modifications to those that have been added to the most recent firmware. Maybe that'll help you guys. I still can't get my router unbricked after the second try. I think I'll throw it out soon :'(

    well, on the other router that was bricked after flashing pre5 i uploaded satori without problems! and then a non pre5! (pre 4 i think) and the nvram settings are nomal besides the clkfreq that is still 216. so you may want to try satori!

    @brainslayer: geh doch tauchen das bringt die ultimative abkühlung bei den temperaturen!!!

    I JUST DID THE SAME THING!!!!!

    I now have the V2 running pre4 DD-WRT..

    I am debating whether to try the pre-5 May 18 build - which was the last working version on the V2

    Edit: I just moved up to the pre5 may 18 build. No problem.

    It seems that whatever nvram setting was causing this to fail was cleared by going to Satori as an intermediate step.

    I will wait for Brainslayer to do a new pre5 build - I will not try the May 24 build again.

    Of course after your prioriritys. no rush..

    As far as I know I cannot flash my v2.2 with Satori, it's not compatible with my WRT54G.

  75. gotamd

    gotamd Network Guru Member

    Yes, Satori only supports up to v2 hardware AFAIK. If you try to flash a later version to it you'll brick it.

    try a version a alchemy or dd-wrt that works with wrt54gv2.2

  77. JuNA

    JuNA Network Guru Member

    I tried with Alchemy Final and dd-wrt prefinal4 and it didn't work. I'm stuck on stock Linksys firmware, that's the only one that works. I'm kinda nervous about flashing it again, but do you think that dd-wrt prefinal 3.3 might do the trick?

    my gut feeling is that again i read somewere in the thread or forum, it could be a nvram setting that is messed up somewere

  79. JuNA

    JuNA Network Guru Member

    That might be possible, yes. Could someone please tell me the command to use in putty/telnet so I can get the NVRAM settings. Sorry for the n00b question, but I really have no idea.

  80. jagboy

    under windows xp:
    click start
    click run
    type "cmd"
    then in the command prompt type "telnet 192.168.1.1"
    [IMG]
    you shoudl see somthing like the above

    then you type "root" as the login and hit enter
    the for the password use the pasword of the router
    then type "nvram show" oce you login

    make sure to tye the values with out the quotes

    Thanks for the info jagboy, but my router doesn't let me in. I get the connection failed everytime. Even tried it with putty now, but it still doesn's let me in. Only by web interface...guess i'll just have to keep on trying with other firmware's. Maybe I'll get lucky :D

  82. dellsweig

    If you are running the stock linksys firmware, there is no telnet.. Try to flash in hyperwrt. That will at least give you telnet.

    You might want to try one of the early DDWRT releases - look on www.dd-wrt.com for the downloads..

    WRT54-GS (CGN1) ver 1.0 :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) DD-WRT 28/5/05

    A little history: Previous Ver Had reboot loop could not correct it, BUT READ ON ITS GOODNEWS for me atleast with LATEST VER!.

    Just tried it! scared me at first. I hardreset the router on hyperwrt then flashed to your latest version it was stuck in its endless reboot thing so I let it wait for 10min came back was still in its loop so I hard reset it for 30secs and guess what it seems all good :) and just to make sure I hardreset it again for another 30secs and no endless reboot loop. I finaly finaly get to see what the rage is all about with dd-wrt firmware after using hyperwrt sence I got this thing. Hope it works for others. Thanks Brain.

    It seems to work (on the WRT54G V2)!!

    I had to do a long reset after the flash - even though I had the May 18 pre5 running on it.

    I have not upgraded my 3.0 or 2.2 WRT54G's yet - I was waiting to see what you were going to do next. Are you going to leave the Linksys nvram settings for CPU out??

    First, I backed up the current version config

    I flashed the V2 - from the pre5 May 18 build.

    After flash, it looked like it was not going to work. The router came back up, initialized the ethernet devices, looked like a normal LED configuration for a second, then went into a reboot (All LED's flashed, then boot). I let it do this for 5 minutes or so, then did a long (30 second) reset (held the button in).

    The router then came up fine with default settings. I reloaded the config file (restore) from the backup and all looks good

    EDIT:

    I just upgraded my 2.2 and my 3.0 WRT54G's to the May 28 build.

    No problems encountered. No reset needed.When the router reset after the flash, it did NOT give me the same flashing LED pattern seen on the V2 hardware.

    Ok - Summary time

    Upgraded all three of my WRT54G's to pre5 May 28 Build

    The V2 box seemed like it was not going to work, but interrupting the reboot loop with a long reset seemed to do the trick.
    The V2.2 and V3 box upgraded no problems

    Now, the question begs for Brainslayers analysis - why do the lines he removed for this build effect the V2 router in this way??
