    @Brainslayer
    any toughts about ?

    Re: DHCP not working ???

    You do not need to know the mac just set them static in Windows.
    Now if they are not in the same location as you or you in a big enviroment than thats a whole different story.

    Re: DHCP not working ???

    What problem are you seeing?? I have a combination of 'static' DHCP reservations and normal DHCP clients (both wired and wireless). They seem to be working just fine with the latest pre5 build

  5. XCOM7

    XCOM7 Network Guru Member

    In my case any system set to obtain a IP automatically will not have network or internet acces even though they get an IP.

  6. Orion

    Orion Network Guru Member

    I would really like to know how you do this.

    I've set static ip's by MAC but you still need to have DHCP on right ?

  7. XCOM7

    XCOM7 Network Guru Member

    Control Panel---Network Connections----LAN----Properties----TCP/IP---- and now all you have to do is set it to "use the following IP address" and set it there for ex:

    192.168.1.101
    255.255.255.0
    192.168.1.1

    DNS:
    Get that from your router in the status page.
    And you are dun.
    And no you do not need DHCP on.

  8. Orion

    Orion Network Guru Member

    Yeah that's what I though. Real static IP's.

    I would rather have DHCP give IP's to only the MAC's I say it should.

    dhcp works fine fo me. i have a wrt45g 2.o with the latest build

    Re: DHCP not working ???

    Go to the Status_Lan.asp page or Status_Wireless.asp it should list the mac for every client that has obtained an IP address.

    If the clients are windows NT/2000/XP just open a command prompt and type "ipconfig /all" the MAC will be listed.

    Re: DHCP not working ???

    Hi dellsweig, MY problem is that my clients dont get an ip-adress at all, sorry one time i got one. But most tries i get the anoying M$ sh.... address 169.254 ..... you know what i mean !

    ive about 50 wrts now, most of them with Prefinal 4 and they work like a charm. But with pf5 the DHCP problem exists :(

    Could be i make something wrong, for sure, but dont know WHAT.

    greets

    WRT54G V.2 problem resolved?

    Trying again to flash pre5 (6/5) to my WRT54G v. 2 router, I must to hard reset the router before flash pre5.

    I tried then the basic version, ok, it flash without problems, then I flash the standard version (samba needed), and .... voila!! it flashes.

    The problem is that I have about 30 gs and 40 g and we need to test all flashing cases before upgrade all devices to give to the technician a mini-HowTo that helps in this task.

    With the others versions, if all the wifi bridges links are fine along the flashing time, we can flash all devices remotely.

    With this explanation I only can give DD-WRT our problem to allow them know why all flashing questions issues presented to them.

    In this case, we are testing a well known flashing procedures to allow remote device flash.

    Thanks DD-WRT team for your job again.

    I would wait till the final release before pushing this out to your clients. 70 boxes (remote) with beta software is pushing it....

    @BrainSlayer:

    The problem with load on the WLAN still exists (but also it exists on Alchemy..)

    When i begin to copy files over WLAN the pings in Counter-Strike go high an higher...(Counter-Strike runs on a PC connectet through wire)

    It seems that the router cannot handle the traffic anymore..and all priorities go to the WLAN-Interface (no Wlan disconnects...but surfing is not possible in normal speed-sites take 5 times longer or even more than normal..)

    Can you fix this ? Its annoying when you play CS and somebody does something in the WLAn and your ping goes up and up..

    The problem didnt exist on older firmwares

  35. Lazybones

    Lazybones Network Guru Member

    Those are the only two items that where not in the 5.6.05 release notes... If there was a performance change you would know it by transfering a large file. You would see the difference between 4 Mbits and 25Mbits.. Unless there was only a minor tweak.

  36. jon9314

    jon9314 Network Guru Member

    hi i just upgraded to the latest and the wireless might be a little quicker but it could just be hopfull thinking. is there any where that i can ckeck my speeds for free?

  37. Lazybones

    Lazybones Network Guru Member

    You can use http://www.dumeter.com/ its shareware.

    Just remember that network equipment is rated in Megabits not MegaBytes

    In theory Wirless G has a max speed of 54 Mbits, using the official firmware I can get about 25 maybe more.. Useing Alchemy or DD-WRT I only get about 4 Mbits.. Its a big difference..

    Can't take my router offline to test it my self at the moment.

    http://www.samurize.com/ can be used to display all sorts of information but its difficult to setup.

  38. Lazybones

    Lazybones Network Guru Member

    Benchmarked my current version then upgraded again.

    11.4 Mbit average each time... 50 to 70% CPU load on the router when transferring..

    Performance still jumps around alot.. found the speed more consistent on some large files I have on one of my computers.

    Still half the Official and HyperWRT performance, but not as bad as the 4Mbit speeds I was seeing in my early tests with Alchemy 1.0.

    Also the Access Restrictions page (Filters.asp) appears to be broken / completely loading.

    jon9314 Network Guru Member

    with the new firmware i am averaging 3.5 megabits/s maxed at 5

    Regarding DD-WRT-June-11/05(Basic), the Wireless speed concern still exists. On my GS 1.0 with WEP enabled I'm only able to obtain an AVG of 17Mb/sec with Max of 22Mb/sec. The Official/HyperWRT firmwares are in the 30+ Mb/sec range.

    Via command line in DD-WRT I did a " nvram set / commit " to all known default wireless SpeedBooster variables as seen on HyperWRT (at least the ones I was aware of) and unfortuately I still got the same poor wireless results. Am I missing something ?

    wl0_afterburner=auto
    wl_afterburner=auto
    wl0_gmode=6
    wl_gmode=6
    wl_gmode_protection=off
    wl0_gmode_protection=off
    wl0_frameburst=on
    wl_frameburst=on

    It will be a wonderfull thing once this wireless anomaly is resolved :)

    I couldnt deal with the poor speeds. So I just flashed to the new version of Talisman(Talisman v1.0.5) which in this version has a performance fix. I can see the great speed increase from DD-WRT to Talisman. Talisman is way faster.

    BTW: I think James has been looking through this forum to find out what things to fix for his firmware.

    New bug un 2005/06/11 ?

    I flashed ms GS V1.1 from prefinal 5 2005/06/05 to 2005/06/11.
    Result: Not working any more... After reset and new configuration i`ve found, that there seems to be a new bug in RFlow / MACupd section: if the intervall value (20) is entered, the LAN port switch hangs up and is not working any more ...
    Solution to get access is only reset button. :explode:

  53. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    Re: Cangelog

    path env fixed = after restart of services the path environments are readjusted to a invalid value which does not support jffs/bin etc.

    filter changes are some changes to the filtercode to get more speed. it isnt finished. i have to rollback some sveasoft changes, which are our performance hole and thats why i also hold back the release of prefinal5

    Oops...Seems I can't find it and I don't know if the " is actually part of a DBCS character...

    I will check that after you updated the langpack to the firmware.

    And for the single "Active", due to I used the method of "Fuzzy matching", so I just don't know if my theory works or not. I will check that also.

    I have a small bug report...

    When I started FTP server in one of my PC and configured port mapping to standard FTP Port (21), I found that when client uses PASV mode for data connection, there is a high possibility that the connection will time out. This problem does not occurs in any other official/unofficial firmware but only DD-WRT (I don't know if only Pre-5 is affected).

    In order to use PASV mode, I have to allocate an area of port to the FTP server manually.

  58. MBChris

    MBChris Network Guru Member

    next bug in Client-Mode, think it has todo with the SSID

    latest Prefinal 11.06.2005

    In Client Mode, with correct SSID e.g. "12345-67" (same as AP) the client connects to an other AP (within the range) with a totally different SSID

    I could not change the SSID of the AP (to a smaller one) because ive many Clients which are connecting to it

    greets
    Chris

  59. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    DD-WRT would never connect to a ap with a different SID setting than in your client. thats not possible. sorry about such a answer, but the drivers are connecting to the ap and they are unchanged and can't be changed too

  60. u3gyxap

    u3gyxap Network Guru Member

    I second that. So far no solution. The only way around is to use MAC address filtering.

  61. MBChris

    MBChris Network Guru Member

    Hi Sebastian, thanks for your answer, but ... others have the same issue ? Could be that the drivers don't connect but they try it ... forever ....

    Ill test it today in the evening again and provide my testresults here !

    greets
    Chris

  62. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    this can only happen if you ssid is longer than 32 characters. this is a driver limitation.

    please check wl assoc and tell me what it brings up

  63. joebloggs

    joebloggs Network Guru Member

    I third that. And I have suggested to BrainSlayer that instead of using SSID to connect in client mode, it should use MAC address instead.

  64. jagboy

    jagboy Network Guru Member

    i dont think this could be done because this is a wireless driver setting i think. and i dont theink they have access to the driver source becuase it is not open source.

  65. BrainSlayer

    BrainSlayer Network Guru Member

    without ssid it would never be possible. i just have to detect the ssid and to set a mac filter internally. otherwise this would never be possible and this would be a problem with the standard mac filter, since this must be disabled if you're using a mac as ap source

  66. u3gyxap

    u3gyxap Network Guru Member

    My SSIDs are 7 or 8 characters long. And still I connect to whatever AP if I don't enable MAC filtering.

    Issues status questions:

    What about these issues?:
    a) RFLOW problem introduced en 11/6/05 pre5 for GS 1.1 units (and another surely)
    b) A specific day of the week market for auto-restarting (only allow "all days").
    c) Client problem that allow the wrt connect to any SSID network.

    Is there anything left to do in v22? or should their be a stop on new functionality until v23?

    Sebastian, are you planning to add all the v22 features to the openwrt-based v23? Can you just add all the existing features to the new kernel without further adaption or will you have to rewrite stuff or rely on modules from the openwrt developers?

    since dd-wrt is going to be openwrt based it is going to be any smaller in size.

    or maybe faster?

    Have you or others tried OpenWRT on a GS ? I'm just wondering if the wireless side preforms similiar to that of Linksys stock firmware - 34Mb/sec ?

    2 bugs: 1 PPPoe and loosing signal

    I have a wrt54GS 1.0 and im using PPPoE
    and I have been experiencing problems:

    ** RP PPPoE
    I can use the internet only with RP-PPPoE, if I disable RP my router is unstable , it disconnects me from the router then it lets me connect for a while and then, a few seconds later I get disconnected again ...and loop this cycle.

    I can use the GUI setup but its unstable, i mean some graphics, page stylesheets or javascript doesnt load on the browser so all disabled textboxes are writeable.

    ** and I still have this Counter Strike problem:
    http://linksysinfo.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5916
    Ive detected that sometimes my WLAN adapter (D-LINK DWL-G520) has really poor signal (signal is just one RED bar), but most of the time it has an excellent signal (4 green bars)
    by the way, the router is currently 2" away from the network card. I think thats the reason because my connection stalls.

    both of this errors happen with release jun,11 and jun,19 of pre5

    if ur router is too closed to ur lan card, ur signal could get saturated by amplification of ur both router or ur lan card, try move a bit away from ur router, also dont set ur xmit power too high. :D hope it helps
