DD-WRT Prefinal5 Bug?

Discussion in 'DD-WRT Firmware' started by joebloggs, May 6, 2005.

I am not sure if this is a bug or not, but I have Prefinal 5 installed and I am still suffering from the same problem as Alchemy1.0 where the router(in client mode) wanders to the stronger AP eventhough I have already specified an SSID to connect to. Is this a feature or a bug? It would be nice if the new firmware is able to connect to an AP using MAC instead of SSID.

    did you try dd-wrt pre4?

Yes, I tried Pre4, but whenever I change the SSID to anything other than "linksys", the router stops responding and I would have to reset it and start all over. I didn't want to deal with these issues and opted to go with the latest Pre5 instead.

I went into the "wireless" tab and change it under "basic settings". Then I go to the "status" tab under "wireless" and I see that the AP Signal is from another AP's MAC address.

You have your settings on AP mode. Mine is on Client mode under "wireless" tab. Try yours on Client mode and see if you have the same problem. Again, this happens when you have many APs to connect to. It automatically selects the strongest AP signal regardless of which AP you tell it to connect to via SSID.

This is an Alchemy bug that is in DD-WR due to it's Alchemy origins.

Apparently the bug has been fixed in Talisman...

I am not sure if BrainSlayer is aware of this bug or not, but part of this thread is to bring awareness to the problem. I hope he will have some time to fix this bug. Other than that, I am now a believer in DD-WRT.

ok, i don't have to set the mode in "client" because it won't work for my installation, my router serve my laptop in wifi... and I don't have any other hardware like router who can serve wifi...

Sorry for misunderstanding, i believed tha AP and Client mode are the same... It was an error...

I am impatient to see a new version of DDWRT merged to openWRT ;) :)
