Ver 2.2 Hardware Issue,
Have been testing over the weekend and in both AP/Client Modes
the router reboots after ~200MB of traffic, sometimes even as
low as 20MB of traffic. After 3x reboots it seems that the router
crashes without access from WLAN nor LAN ports.
Tested this with 6 different units with both AlchemyRC1-RC7a
HyperWRT, and now also DD-WRT all exhibit the same issue.
Reproducing the test
Use FTP to transfer a large file (700MB xvid) to LAN ftp server
via WRTG as AP.... it will stop and reboot somewhere between
20MB and 240MB, or even as high as 448MB.
If using client-mode, recommend using a non ver 2.2 hardware
for AP to see the failure also occur in clientmode.
Have not tested LAN-LAN nor LAN-WAN to confirm if this is a
driver bug of the new switch on the ver 2.2 units, however will
test this tonite and confirm back with results.
this sounds like the well known production quality problem of the lan chipset of your router. bring it back to the store and swap it.
note that the lan chipset is the only difference between the v2.0 and the v2.2
Already noted here:
From wan to lan no problems with dissconection and of reboot's with ftp
i have tested it 3 times with files over 2GB. I have also the v2.2 versions
There is also a light perfomence wins,
normaly i have 460/465KB/ps now constantly 480KB/ps
ps. also tested with wlan no dissconnection problems with files of 2GB
wow 5 minutes after release of 3.1 this topic is updated. mmh but the url should be www.dd-wrt.com which is more compatible to various proxies.
generally are now 2 pppoe modules available, the original linksys pppoe which works almost better as the rp variant of sveasoft. but you can switch between them in the Administration->Management page.
if you get some problems with it, just post it here.
Thanks Brian New URL up ;-)
you need to update the main front page. unless users directly goto the downloads section or read this, or the fron page of LI they wont know there is a new version out.
i know. i'm on the way doing this
shit. typo in my changlog and so in the news too
-Export mode enabled by default
-Expert mode enabled by default
Looks like there are many problems with this new lan chipset. Going to get myself a good old WRT54GS V1.0 in Germany this week.
i'm using a WRT54GS 2.0 and it works well
The MOTD shows;
Welcome to the GPL conform DD-WRT Firmware
DD-WRT build #22-prefinal2 <--- must be 3.1
based on Sveasoft Alchemy RC5a
cosmetic and not really important now. i fix that in next release
I´ve got a WRT54GS v1.0 EU CGN1XXXX and i´ve got disconnection Problems via WLAN too. But i will try the DD-WRT 3.1 tonight.. hope it helps
dont forget to reset all settings to default
is the WRT54GS v2.0 out yet? whats is the first 4 characters on your serial number.
i dont have this listed yet.
Firmware Version:Alchemy-6.0-RC5a FBN-Edition #20 , Jan 27 2005
RF Firmware Version:Alchemy-6.0-RC5a FBN-Edition #20
RF Domain:Worldwide (channel 1~11)
RF SSID:www.fbn-dd.de (RIE)
RF Mac Address:00:12:174:59:AB
LAN Mac Address:00:12:174:59:A9
WAN Mac Address:00:12:174:59:AA
serial follows this evening
problem is this "Hardware Version:2.0" is shown on other v1.x units it is incorrect to judge the "version" of a router this way.
The versions are identified by serial number alone.
obviously the chip can be identified in another way. pull the WRT54G apart
mmh sorry. i dont know about that and its a little bit hard to believe since i saw also the 1.1 number on GS models on this page. however. i will take a look on the S/N so far i arrived at home
I've a WRT54GS V1.0 here that says "Hardware Version:2.0" on SysInfo.htm
Someone that bought a new V2.0 (verified bottom logo) told me it has a push button under the front cisco logo. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get hold of any pictures.
all i need is the first 4 digits of serial
S/N: CGN10DC07940 so its a 1.0
Just upgraded to prefinal 3(.1) from my stable 2.1C
What is a WDS watchdog, why whould I want to enable it and what are the recomended settings?? I use WDS (2 WRT54G's) and never had a problem loosing the session.
Site survey crashes the router...
I tried it on 2 WRT54G,s - one hard wired to the PC , the other wireless
Same results on both
site survey is still buggy cause of some heavy changes. i worked last night in fixing this, but now i have another problem. but i guess i will fix that in the next hours.
for WDS Watchdog. WDS Watchdog is simply just like a AP Watchdog and can reboot the router if a connection is lost. its still under development and i got a new version today. so use it with care and disable it if you have any problems with it. the reason why Cesar Gozales developed it, was that the original AP Watchdog wasnt working for him
I have been running 2.2 pre3.1 since last night. I have been hitting it pretty hard. This looks good - no issus with performance or stability. The only issues I have seen so far is the site survey <g> and a couple default radio buttons
It looks like the dropped WAN routes problem I had with 2.2 initial release is gone. No problems with large files transfers or long VoIP calls.
This looks like a winner!!
THANKS for your effort - long live Open Source
