I just converted my WRT54GL running tomato 1.28 from being a router to just bring a Wifi access point and its working great, however, I used the ddns client (for dyndns.org) on the router using the WAN IP. I changed it now to use an external IP address checker but it doesn't work. It keeps saying:

    Last IP Address -
Last Result Error obtaining IP address. #RETRY 16 1

Does anyone know how to make this work. I have it connected from 1 of the LAN ports to a gigabit switch in my network. Should I use the WAN port?

I figure I could have my server run something like ddclient but it would be great if this just worked again.

    Thanks very much,
    Lyle

    well I solved the problem

I connected the wan port (with dhcp) to my switch so now it has a wan connection and it can reach the external IP checker. This shouldn't really be necessary as it wastes a switch port and adds complexity. I have DHCP disabled on the LAN ports so that the other router gives the IPs out.

    Thanks,
    Lyle
