DHCP and WinXP

Had my router (WAG54GS) for about 6 months and it has been working fine. Recently, however, my Win XP wireless (IBM T42) suddenly stopped getting DHCP IP addresses. It can see the router (no security) and can associate with it. However, it never gets an IP address. Tried giving it a static IP address - while it seemed ok I couldn't get to the router or the outside world. Oddly I can connect it via ethernet and DHCP works fine - my other PC connects this way. I've seen a couple of posts elsewhere about this but no answer. By the way I'm using Win XP Pro with SP2.

Any help or hints gratefully received/

Have you made any recentt changes ???? FW upgrade, Windows update ?

I use XP Home and XP pro with fixed IP or dhcp with no problem. DHCP is sometime a bit long.

Somewhere in the above paragraph is your answer. Try looking for the latest driver of your wireless NIC on your IBM T42

    Hi,

Thanks. Finally solved it by resetting the factory defaults on the router - wireless attached seamlessly and allocated and IP address. Took a long time though. At least I've learned now how to make my router secure!

    Regards

    PC.

if you're running XP Pro SP2 try securing with WPA2 as log as your router supported with latest firmware and apply XP WPA2 patch
