DHCP issues with WRTP54g

These devices seem to have a problem accepting an IP address other than in the 192.168.xxx.xxx range (class C I beleive). the dhcp servers on my network are serving 10.xx.xx.xx addresses. The only way that I can get these things to work on my network is to give it a static address (sometimes this works but its a pain in the butt). What does work is putting a linksys WRT54G in front of it so that it gets a 192.168 address.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there a firmware upgrade out there that can fix this prob?

I never has this problem with my WRTP54GS. It always got the (class A) IP address assigned from my ISP.
