DHCP tftp option

Since HyperWRT provides DHCP services, is it possible to input the tftp-option somewhere to point tftp services to a specific client system? This could come in handy for many things. For my particular application, I would like my voip-phone to automatically receive the tftp server IP from DHCP to boot or update firmware.

could you get more specific in your description, im not sure whats setup and what you want to accomplish. Do you want the VoIP phone to just find a tftp server automatically? give us model #'s etc.

fyi the default TFTP port is UDP 69 if port forwarding will make what you want wok.

dnsmaq provides dhcp, check the dnsmasq documentation to see if the option you want is possible. it can be easily added.

basically, the idea is when a system comes up and uses DHCP to connect to a network there are a lot of optional parameters. So for example, when in this case a VoIP phone, a router, switch, trunking gateway, etc first comes up, if they need to tftp a bootimage or firmware they can automatically be told what the IP address of the tftp server is. Here is an list of available options:

    http://www.networksorcery.com/enp/protocol/bootp/options.htm

it would be a cool parameter to have in the DHCP section of the GUI, I don't think other wrt54 firmware has this feature.

In case anyone ever needs this info in the future, I figured out how to do this.

SSH or telnet into the wrt and enter:

    nvram set dnsmasq_conf="
    dhcp-option=66,<ip of your TFTP server>"

    save it with nvram commit.

Would be cool if adding these options can make it into the GUI at some point.

    THanks
