before I start upgrading my firmware, I would like to know the difference between the following files:
I know that these are different firmwares, but why ends one with "fw" and the other with "code"?
Will I destroy my unit if I upgrade with the "code" files?

Its just a name, it does not matter. It's like the difference between readme.txt and readmenow.txt

If they are the correct binaries for your unit, then it will be fine. If not, then it likely will fail on the code pattern check when upgrading.

make sure however that with ADSL routers you use the correct country/Annex firmware.

AnnexA - DSL over POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service)

AnnexB - DSL over ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network)
