Different Router Versions ... Any difference?

Got a question about the different versions of the WRT54G.

Is there any performance difference, especially with wireless range, signal strength, reliability etc. on the different routers.

I realize they have different chipsets just wondering about performance. Does anyone prefer one version over another? Pertains to all versions including 3.

I put it in this area because I use Sveasoft.

the wireless is great. with dd-wrt firmware and maybe the linksys aftermarket antennas forget about it!!!!!!!!!!!! :D . it is a crazy combo. i have not had any wireless problems with my wrt54gv2, which is dead(rest in peace). it is dead because of human error.

it also has been loyal to me for about one year with out any problems. if you are going to have wireless clients that are on different floors and though many walls expect to buy a aftermarket antenna. that is the only complaint. but other than that the unit is great. linksys had a few tries with the wrt54gv1 and wrt54gv1.1 but they really got it right with the wrt54gv2.

FYI i am currrently testing the wrt54gv2.2 and putty it though it laps. we will see how this one does.

I can't speak for the other versions, but I have 2 version 2.0's which run great after you set the beacon interval to 50ms instead of the default 100ms (gets rid of the dropped wireless signal problem completely for me on both routers). I've used the default Linksys firmware as well as a couple versions of Satori and now the latest Alchemy and all have worked like a charm.
