    Hello --

I've an HDTV that can play media via its USB port and its own version of Media Player. But since it doesn't have an Ethernet capability, I'm thinking about getting an Ethernet-to-USB adapter like this and attach an HDD to the router.

Would this work? How would I access -- read and write -- to this drive from Windows desktop?

    Thanks!

If I understand you correctly, you want to connet that USB Ethernet adapter to your TV.
If so, that is a definite NO GO.
There is no way any TV would have drivers for an adapter like that.

I figured as much. And the TV doesn't have an DLNA compliant player.

    Thanks.

Best you can do is attach the HDD directly to your TV.
Of course, then you won't have the comfort of just managing the content from your PC over LAN.

There are probably hybrid devices which can translate a SMB share over ethernet to a USB pendrive/hdd, but rest assured you'll be cheaper of with a external ethernet capable media player.

That's exactly what I wanted to accomplish.

    Oh, well.

I've looked into WD TV, but eh, all those Apps are useless to me.

    Thanks anyway.

I never use the apps, just use it for streaming videos from my nas/router to my tv.

I've decided to stick with my thumb drive for now.

    Thanks.
