dns server problems with my wrt54g router

I am connecting to a new ISP using dhcp and dns servers provided by my isp. The dns server ips are 192.168.1.5 and 192.168.1.6 which work fine when connected directly to my cable modem, but do not work when connected to the router. They are unpingable. Anyone any ideas? It seems strange that an isp would use internal network addresses. I determined the dns server ips from ipconfig /all on my vista machine and looking in /etc/resolv.conf on my mac.

I did not configure any static dns servers, left them all 0 in the router configuration so that they would be obtained automatically. I did not make that clear in my original post.

you could always use some other dns servers, like from competing isp or other services.
Or change the network you use on your LAN (from 192.168.1.X to 192.168.100.X for example). The WRT do not like having same subnets on both LAN and WAN sides.
