ON MY LINKSYS SWITCH THERE IS AN UPLINK PORT AND 4 REGULAR PORTS FOR ANY DEVICE.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?: CONNECT MY GATEWAY ROUTER TO THE UPLINK OR CONNECT MY NETWORK ROUTER TO IT?

OR IS EVERY PORT THE SAME IN WHICH A GATEWAY OR NETWORK ROUTER CAN CONNECT TO? BECAUSE USUALLY THE UPLINK IS USED TO CONNECT TO ANOTHER SWITCH OR HUB (IT SAYS THAT IN THE INSTRUCTIONS BOOK).

Usually a Uplink port is on a switch that doesn't have auto MDI/MDI-X (auto crossover) most networking devices have this nowadays however some still don't... anyway The uplink port is usually crossed over so you can connect another switch right into it... if your connecting a router that supports auto mdi-x then it shouldn't matter if you use the uplink port if it won't link you may need to use a crossover cable.. usually the Uplink port is shared with another port so if you ues the uplink port you can't use usually the first port or the last port depending on the design of the switch.

Guyfromhe is right. If you have an uplink port it will just be a crossed over version of the port it is beside.. Make sure you don't plug something into both at the same time.

Using a normal network cable connect the uplink port to the regular port on another switch and you are set.
