does a WRT54GL have better RANGE than the old BEFW11S4 ???

I am trying to economically (ok, I have no job right now) extend the range of my BEFW11S4 (v.2). I have a 6db directional antenna on the router and also on my remote PC, but the connection is weak (house to distant barn with metal roof).

After much investigation it looks like I should:

    1. ditch the BEFW11S4 (because v.2 hw doens't have lazy WDS support)

    2a. buy a new WRT54GL and another WRT54GL running third-party firmware as a repeater

    -or-

2b. buy a new WRT54GL and a WAP54G running stock firmware as my repeater.

but perhaps the new WRT54GL has better range and I won't need the repeater? in another post I made, "jchuit" replied that the WRT54GL has better range than my old WIFI-B router, but I would guess they are the same.

    thanks,
    john

i vote 2a, range is always subjective and varies in every enviornment but the GL should have better range. i say buy ONE WRT54GL and see what happens, and then get the 2nd one as a repeater should you need it.
