I have the main router (v2.1) sitting on the bottom floor of a 3-story townhouse. The range expander is sitting on the middle floor and has a consistently good connection to the router. With my laptop sitting about 2 feet from the expander, I ran Inssider and found the RSSI to be -50, with other access points from the neighbors being much further away and using different channels. My laptop, running Vista, will sometimes drop from the network and require either a repair or reboot to resolve the issue. My wife's business laptop will consistently drop at least once an hour, sitting from the same location as my laptop while mine is still successfully connected. Needless to say, this is getting quite frustrating. I'm really stumped as to what the issue could be. I imagine the next step would be to update the firmware on the router and expander. Outside of that, what else should I be looking at to resolve the issue? I'm thinking that there might be a hardware issue with the wife's notebook - Should I look into getting a USB wifi adapter for that one? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
