    hi,
thanks first of all for that forum. i read quite a bit already, couldn´t find the answer for my problem though:

    I have a D-Link DSL502T ADSL Router
    IP Address 10.1.1.1
    Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0
    DHCP Server Enabled
    NAT Enabled
    Valid IP Range: 10.1.1.3 - 10.1.1.9

connected to the LAN Port of my WRT54GS, which is setup to work as WAP (to avoid two routers and portforwarding craziness):
    IP Address 10.1.1.235
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    DHCP Server Disabled
    Operating Mode: Gateway

    One Wireless PC (works):
    static IP Address 10.1.1.3
    Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0
    DHCP Server 10.1.1.1
    DNS Server 10.1.1.1

    One Wireless Laptop (the problem):
    Auto IP Adress 169.254.192.226
    Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
    Standard Gateway -

so if i connect the Laptop via LAN to the WRT54GS, i get right away the IP i would think of... like 10.1.1.4 ..and everything works fine.
BUT if i wanna use the wireless adapter in the Laptop with no LAN, i get the settings as shown above....
with ipconfig /renew i get the message, that it the DHCP-Server is unavailable.

i am wondering now, how come that it works fine with the cable, but the wireless connection doesn´t... especially when i see that the wireless connection is doing fine with the other PC.
any thoughts? any help would be very much appreciated...
    thanks
    Tom
