    I'm Looking for advice...

You guys with dual-band routers...Do you use different SSIDs for your 2.4 and 5ghz bands? Or same?

Same. Lets the client choose which band they prefer, depending on signal quality. If I want to force a band, I can still specify a BSSID to connect to on the client.

I copied this from a different post:

In general, wireless devices aren't very smart about what they connect to. If your clients are dual-band capable, they will connect in the priority order set by their wireless connection manager if the manager has this capability.

If not, they'll connect in some unknown manner and continue to use that connection unless it is not there.

If you want to control the band that your devices connect to, and you will if you are trying to do media streaming, then give the SSID's different names and set the connection for each device as you desire.

    Interesting post.

In reading it I am wondering if a hard wired device can be directed to a preferred bandwidth.
