Easiest way to find latest firmware version?

I'm using an ASUS wl-500w currently with Tomato Firmware v1.28.9052 MIPSR1-beta23 K26 USB vpn3.6. My main issue is trying to figure out what source is most reliable to make sure I have the latest firmware.

I understand the official site for this particular fork of firmware is http://tomatovpn.keithmoyer.com/ but I only see the official stable releases posted there, not the latest beta builds. They seem to be scattered about here on the forums.. I've also checked http://toastman.dyndns.org but the latest version I see is Tomato Firmware v1.28.9052 MIPSR1-beta23 which is what I'm currently using. Does this mean I am using the latest version available for MIPSR1? Is Toastman's site the best place to check?

Thanks. Any information will be much appreciated.

Haha - this is a good question to ask. First of all, pretty much all of the modders are now using Teddy Bear's builds as a base, so the latest Teddy Bear firmware is always the safest bet. Except for additional features, all of our issues should be pretty much the same as his, if we didn't screw something up. Download from http://tomatousb.org/download

If you can compile versions yourself, he posts latest source code, often very much "experimental", which means it is not guaranteed to work, for people to try if they wish. Often that has new features or mods in it that might benefit you. You can find that on http://repo.or.cz/w/tomato.git

My builds are based on that latest source code posted by Teddy Bear, after testing and evaluating to see if there's anything new and interesting that might be good for him to get some feedback on. I don't include something if I don't test it first and believe it's stable, though, and so far they've pretty much always been winners. I usually spot anything new and evaluate it on the same day he posts it, and usually make a new "Toastman" version the next day. However, it's for MIPSr2. I don't bother much with MIPSr1. Maybe I should - but I use RT-N16 router and that is what I test on. Keep checking from time to time.

The link you give is to the version by Keith Moyer who has done a great job of adding OpenVPN to Tomato (which is called TomatoVPN). That has not kept up with the latest T/B code, but I am sure it is stable. I've not looked at it because I don't use VPN, and I don't know what features it currently has, but I believe it is also based on Teddy Bear's code. And Teddy Bear has added Keith's TomatoVPN to his issues too, so I guess that brings us back to Teddy Bear's being a good place to look.

There's also Victek's versions, there's currently a new "Christmas Edition" with his well known "RAF" mods included. He makes versions for both MIPSr1 andf MIPSr2. Perhaps you should check out http://victek.is-a-geek.com and have a look at the Xmas Issue!

I think that's most of the popular ones. Sorry if I left anyone out!

    Happy Xmas!
