Easy way to add users to an encrypted home wireless Lan?

I was setting up encryption on a friend's WRT54G v5 router the other day. She needs her husband, mom, and occasional friend to have wireless access.

If I use MAC address filtering, the visitor will have to locate their MAC address, and someone will have to enter it into the "allow" list on the Linksys.

With WPA encryption, the visitor will have to enter the encryption key into their wireless client.

These people are pretty low tech - I foresee a lot of problems. It occured to me that they might be able to use a USB flash drive/thumb drive with the encryption key on it, and they could could just temporarily give it to the visitor. Or perhaps a flash drive converted to a token would work ( ? - not really sure what that is).

Does anyone know if this is possible, and how you'd go about doing it?

I store my 63 character long WPA key on my mp3 player/usb drive, its too boring to type it every time someone needs it. You could do that too, but it still needs to be entered into the computer that needs the key.

I don’t know if there exists a program that can do it just temporarily but I doubt it.

And don’t bother with mac address filtering, it doesn’t give any real protection.

Thanks. These people are too low tech to remember where to enter the key though I'm afraid, although they may end up having to get at least that tech.

But I saw something on the Wireless Security settings page (advanced?) having to do with Smart Cards, so I thought perhaps someone would know more about it. I can't use a Smart card per se, as they aren't set up with the corresponding hardware.

And unfortunately my WRT54G is v2 and doesn't have that page, so I can't see the settings in front of me.
