I was strolling through past forums looking at how clueless we all use to be regarding to how to get quickvpn to work (Mar 2005 and further back :) ) and I came across this post you had replied on. I don't recall being too involved with the WRV54G scene at the time because I'd just come over to England and was using a WAG54G at the time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does the configuration in the "second to the last post" make it possible to pass GRE through the WRV if the config file is modified?

If so, I might be tempted to break my WRV out of the mothballs and put it online to try it...

Oh, the config files save as shortcuts, don't they? How do you get to the config files again? All the drugs I did with Capone back in the "prohibition" period are starting to affect me... *heh*

    Certainly looks that way :)

Now if we could find a way to enable NAT-T we'd be laughing

The config files save as a text file easily edited with notepad . Just save the config file to your desktop or another easy to find location .

Launch notepad & select open from the menu , then browse to the config file , make sure the file setting type is set to all . Edit & save changes to the config file then upload to the wrv .

I thought that was how it's done, yet, when I look back at all of my configs, they saved as some sort of "speed dial" icon...

Pushing that aside, is anyone going to try this configuration to see if they can pass GRE? I know I am when I get back from the gym...

You are correct they do save with the speed dial icon . Dont know why that is , thats why i stated make sure to select "all" for the file type setting .

If you do not it may not be possible to locate the config file when you browse for it with the wrv user interface when uploading the file back to the wrv.

I wouldnt be a bit surprized if thats all it takes to pass GRE . It sure looks intentional that the wrv was cripped via crappy firmware .

Just on a off note i noticed linksys released exactly 13 firmware updates so far for the wrv54g & with the arrival of the wrv200 im betting 2.39.2 is the last .

I have no doubt in my mind IMO that 2.39.2 was the last. The wrv became the running joke of vpn routers because it had " a whole lotta nutz" but "no rod" to drive it home!!

The WRV could have been "the" SOHO router solution to beat had it not been for linksys F'ing around with beta firmware and disabling Nat-t and GRE. Hmmm... I wonder if all of the beta development was preparation for the WRV200.

Heh... It's like equating the wrv54g to windows '98 and the wrv200 to 2000 (a trendsetter).

If GRE is turned off in the wrv200 (which I've got on backorder), I'll have to try this trick by editing the config file also.

I'm getting ready to try it. I'll let y'all know what happens...

My sh*t got blocked on the glass like charles barkley stuck it there:

    <30>may 3 22:06:40 2006 guardtowervpn wrv54gfw-in: block-rules (gre 212.xxx.xxx.xxx->87.xxx.xxx.xxx on ixp1) [0,0]

It saw GRE trying to come through. I'm wondering if it was my Norton that blocked it. I'm going to check a few other settings. I'm wondering how to get to the SPI firewall settings (through the config, possibly?)

    Ideas anyone?

Well, that was an exercise in futility  Back in the box for the wrv54g *sniff*

Just to say, I have tried this and it works for my Microsoft SBS Server.

By all means, if you know the proper configuration, please share with the rest of us. This would be a prime opportunity to enable WDS between the wrv200 and the wrv54g.
