I have a wrt54GS router... I am amidst a structured home install and would like to place the router in the cabinet with the rest of the equipment... The box however is in the basement and I "fear" that even with the 7db booster antennas poking through the top equipment panel, I will incur quite a good amount of signal loss to the other side of my house ( apx 1500 sqft, 2 floor, cape-cod )...

is it possible to use some cable to relocate the booster antennas further away from/outside the box to help with this? and at that, what is the range I can run with said cable? would it be possible to run (in a conduit) said cable to the second floor and place the antennas there?

im open to ideas and opinions

    thank you

you could also run an ethernet cable from your broadband connection to the scond floor and put the WRT54GS on that floor.

have your tried using reflectors? www.freeantennas.com

if i place the router upstairs then I have to wire a return feed back down to the panel... not that thats a huge ordeal, but, id really like to keep everything together... the idea being centralization

i havent checked out that website before... i will now

as for the cable idea... is it possible? even if I got the antennas say 10 ft from the box I think it would help quite a bit

Your biggest issue to overcome is cost. To purchase some low loss cable with RPTNC male to RPTNC female, would probably cost you close to the amount of a second AP. I have my network cabling and devices all centralized in my basement. I installed a second WRT54GS to act as an AP only that I put in my study (2 floors up from the basement).
